Mrs. Robinson, the high school counselor, will have an informational meeting for eighth grade parents February 2nd at 6:30 P.M. in the high school auditorium. Mrs. Robinson will meet with eighth grade students about scheduling during Mrs. Scott's classes on Thursday, February 3rd.

The Girls’ Basketball Tri-County Tournament will be held on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5. The 7th grade girls’ team will play at Morrison and the 8th grade girls’ team will play at Riverdale. Times will be announced closer to the game dates. Please call MJHS with any questions.


B.E.S.T. “Easy As Pie” fundraiser will begin February 25. Order forms and money will be due on March 15 and pick-up will be April 12th at 3:00 – 4:30 PM at MJHS.

On February 8, 9 and 10 and 11th, B.E.S.T. will be selling Valentine Grams before school, 7:30 – 8:00 A.M. The cost will be $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. The candy grams will be handed out during homeroom on Friday, February 11.

GOOD LUCK TO OUR MUSIC STUDENTS WHO WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN CONCERTS AND CONTEST IN MARCH!!

Quiz Bowl and Swimming will be starting soon. If your child would like to participate in Quiz Bowl, remember there is a $25 activity fee and there is a $75 activity fee (first sport) for Swimming. Permission slips, physical, and activity fee for Swim are due to MJHS office by Wed., Feb. 23.  There will be a Swim Team Parent Meeting on Thursday, March 3, at 5:15 at the HS Pool.  MJHS Swim Team practice begins Monday, February 28 – 3:30 – 5:00.


The 2010-11 Morrison Junior High Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday, January 18 at 2:35 during home room. P.M.  The winner of the school spelling bee will compete in the Whiteside County Spelling Bee in March, where they will have a chance at a spot in the national spelling bee in Washington, D.C.  Students will be receiving more information about eligibility and participation in the spelling bee in their English classes. Those interested in the spelling bee may preview the words on Mrs. Scott's website located under staff resources on our district website: www.morrisonschools.org.



 
*Parents are asked to come to the office to sign the release form or send a note of explanation in advance of a pre-arranged absence.
*It is necessary for the person picking up a student to come to the office to sign the log. Sign out is for the protection of the student.
*If a student is not in school, parents or guardians are expected to call MJHS by 9:00 a.m. or leave a message on voice mail.  See the Student Handbook.  *Medical Release: in the case of surgery, orthopedic injuries, and extended illnesses, a note is required from your student's physician regarding activity for recess, required gym classes, and sports participation.


STUDENT YEARBOOKS  - forms were sent home in the report card envelope.  The forms and money should be turned in to the office by February 9th.  The cost is $13.00 and checks should be made payable to Persona Studio.

You may apply for free/reduced lunch anytime during the school year. Forms are available in the junior high office.

A New Year means new opportunities: 

Each New Year is a very exciting time at MJHS.  If you have not joined an activity, now is the time to do so.   Swimming practice starts mid-February and Quiz Bowl practice will begin in March.  

 High School orientation for 8th grade students will be Thursday, February 3rd and the parent meeting will be the evening of Wed. Feb 2, 6:00-9:00 @ MHS Auditorium..   B.E.S.T. nights are planned for January 28th and early April.  Being a part of an activity is a great way to get connected and meet new people.  Come and join in on the fun.



B.E.S.T. NIGHT
Come celebrate making it through the second quarter without getting a single detention! Come to the Junior High, Friday, January 28, from 7 to 8:30 pm and enjoy a night of fun activities. Invitations will be handed out at school for this fun-filled event!!

Lanyards are available for sale in the office.  This is a convenient way to keep track of lunch cards.  The
cost is $2.00.


Each month, MJHS will send home a newsletter like this. It will include the month's lunch menu as well as any activities happening at MJHS and/or in the Morrison School District that pertain to our students. Families are encouraged to keep these monthly newsletters in a convenient spot at home for easy reference. An on line version of the newsletter can be found on the school web page, www.morrisonschools.org. Click on "Junior High, then Junior High Home Page to link you to the newsletter. Remember, you can also see the Junior High Daily Assignments from our school web page, as well as your child's progress reports/grades. Please call the school if you have any questions.


Attendance is the key to school success:

Parents; it is not always easy to determine when a child should stay home when they are not feeling well. Our school nurse suggests the following guidelines. Parents; please keep students at home if they have:

Fever of 100 degrees and above
Norovirus symptoms: diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain, body aches, headache, low grade fever (children & staff experiencing these symptons should stay home until 24 hours after symptons have stopped.

Strep Throat – may return after 24 hours on antibiotic and 24 hours with no fever
Chickenpox – may return when all lesions are dry

Measles – may return with Doctor’s permission
Rubella – may return with Doctor’s permission
Mumps – may return with Doctor’s permission

Impetigo – may return with Doctor’s permission

Ringworm - may return with Doctor’s permission
Pink eye - may return with Doctor’s permission
Head lice – may return after effective treatment as determined by District Health Services Nurse or Doctor
Scabies – may return after effective treatment as determined by District Health Services Nurse or Doctor
Rash of unknown origin – may return with Doctor’s permission


MEDICAL RELEASE

In the case of surgery, orthopedic injuries, and extended illnesses, a note is required from your student’s physician regarding activity for recess, required gym classes, and sports participation.

Please minimize family vacations during the school year or communicate with the school so that work can be provided in advance. The school will also be notifying parents when their child has missed more than ten days. I know that school attendance can be improved when the school and parents combine forces.
