Illinois Student Achievement Tests (ISATs)
We will be giving your child state-required achievement tests on March 7-11, 2011. Students in grade 6 will be tested in reading and mathematics. Students in grade 7 will be tested in reading, mathematics and science. Students in grade 8 will be tested in reading and mathematics. The tests are a part of the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) program, and are being given to all eligible students. The results of state tests will be reported to you on the School Report Card in the fall. We will review state test results along with other information to help us improve our school program. In addition, you will receive information about your child's performance on the state tests he or she took.
You can help your child do his or her best on the test by:
making sure, if possible, that your child attends school on the days of testing;
making sure your child gets a good night's sleep the night before testing;
providing breakfast on the mornings of testing;
reminding your child to ask the teacher questions if he or she does not understand the test directions;
letting your child know that you have confidence in his or her ability to do his or her best; and
advising your child not to worry about the test – just do the best he or she can.
Please call your child's teacher(s) if you want additional information or have further questions about these tests.

Parents; it is not always easy to
determine when a child should stay home when they are not feeling
well. Our school nurse suggests the following guidelines. Parents;
please keep students at home if they have:
Fever of 100 degrees
and above
Norovirus
symptoms: diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain, body aches,
headache, low grade fever (children & staff experiencing these
symptons should stay home until 24 hours after symptons have
stopped.
Strep Throat – may
return after 24 hours on antibiotic and 24 hours with no fever
Chickenpox – may
return when all lesions are dry
MEDICAL RELEASE
In the case of surgery, orthopedic injuries, and extended illnesses, a note is required from your student’s physician regarding activity for recess, required gym classes, and sports participation.
Please minimize family vacations during the school year or communicate with the school so that work can be provided in advance. The school will also be notifying parents when their child has missed more than ten days. I know that school attendance can be improved when the school and parents combine forces.
