Class of 2009 Scholarships
Listed below are some of the scholarships
available to
Morrison High School students. The scholarship binder located in the
guidance office contains additional available scholarships not listed
below. The binder is checked out on a first come first serve basis.
Some students check it out for a homeroom period, some use it before or
after school, and others have checked the binder out overnight or for a
weekend.
Students should contact the financial aid office or admissions
counselor at
the
institution(s) where they are accepted to obtain information about the
“college specific” scholarships available to their
incoming
freshmen.
These scholarships are based on academic achievement and some may be
offered to students who are selecting a specific field of study or
degree.
The
applications for most of the following scholarships will
be available in February.
Most deadlines are in March. We will provide daily announcements and
directions when the scholarship application time opens. Each
organization sets its own criteria and deadlines. It is important to
read the application forms carefully. Most applications are to be
turned in to the counselor. It is best to hand the application forms to
Mrs. Robinson personally so that she can verify that all the necessary
information is accounted for. Some scholarship applications should be
mailed to the sponsoring family or organization.
Students are encouraged to search other outside sources for
scholarships. For scholarship recommendation letter requests NOT listed
below on this web site students should provide an addressed envelope to
the teacher, coach, or counselor. The sealed envelope will be
returned to the student to be posted.
Recommendation request forms are availale in the guidance office for
students to use when requesting letters of reference from faculty,
coaches, youth ministers, & employers.
The following list may be amended. At the discretion of the
sponsoring organization or family, the criteria, the method of
application, and the amount of the award may change. Some scholarships
may be cancelled.

Receipt
This is your receipt signed by the counselor to keep as proof of which
items you have submitted. You may also stop by the guidance
office to ask about which recommendation letters have been submitted
for you. It is a good idea to do this so that you can give a
gentle reminder to coaches, teachers, employers, youth ministers.
etc...who have agreed to write a letter of reference. They
may
need to be reminded of the deadline date.
Students should not leave scholarship applications in the main
office or in a teacher or counselor’s mailbox. The signed
proof
of
receipt from the counselor is the student’s record that they
have
submitted items for application to the guidance office.
Scholarship
Tips:
Type the information
unless requested to hand
write.
Check that your name appears on EVERY page you submit.
Ask someone to read and check your essay, application, and attachments.
Request recommendation letters at least 3 weeks before the due date.
Request transcripts at least one week before the due date.
Provide envelopes for character reference letters and indicate your
name, the name of the person writing the recommendation, the name of
the scholarship, and the date due on the envelope. The person
writing the letter should sign his/her name across the sealed flap of
the envelope. If you are asking a person who is not an
employee
of the school district, you should provide a stamped envelope
addressed to the MHS guidance office and indicate the name of the
scholarship.
Do not put your application items into a large envelope as they will
not fit into the envelope being forwarded to the selection committee.
Each scholarship recipient will be given a notecard with the contact
information and address so that a thank you can be sent to the
sponsoring organization or family. Please retain this
information
for further reference. In many cases you will not receive the
award until you show proof of registration at the college.
Regional
and National Scholarships
Listed
below are a few of the regional and national scholarships that we are
aware of. Please do not rely on this as your only resource
because there are so many scholarships available. We suggest
that
you access more scholarship inforamtion from reputable sources llike
www.fastweb.com. Never pay for a scholarship service; it is
in
there best interest not yours. We also suggest that you access more
scholarship information from the websites of large high schools in the
area or state. They may have access to information that we
are
not supplied. Their scholarship information is often under a "Student
Services" section.
