Physical Education is required seven
semesters and Health is required for one semester. Two classes of P.E.
may not be taken concurrently without the principal's permission.
*Students who demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the
area of consumer education as certified by an ISBE Annual Consumer
Education Proficiency Test minimum score, may be excused from the
required Consumer Education class as a prerequisite for graduation.
Students may take the Annual Consumer Education Proficiency Test no
more than once in any school year. (see "testing" for more information)
Students who pass both semesters of the General
Business course which is offered at the freshman and sophomore level
will have met the consumer edcation requirement. Students who
either do not take or do not pass the optional general business course
must pass the semester consumer education resource management course
during either the junior or senior year.
Students who are permitted to take a Morrison High
School course(s) and are enrolled in Morrison Community Unit #6 Schools
other than the Morrison High School shall receive credit for the
course(s) upon successful completion of the course(s). This credit will
be recorded on their Morrison High School transcript but such credit
shall not be used to meet their applicable number of credits for high
school graduation.
DRIVER EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Students otherwise eligible to take a driver education
course must receive a passing grade in at least 8 courses during the
previous 2 semesters before enrolling in the course. This requirement
may be waived by the principal if he/she believes a waiver to be in the
student's best interest. Students who are absent unexcused and
subsequently miss class instruction or driving time will not pass this
class.
COMMENCEMENT
The date for commencement will be established each year.
The valedictorian(s) and salutatorian(s) will be announced during, but
not prior to, the commencement exercises. The process for choosing
speakers for Commencement will be determined during the school year.
COURSES THAT COUNT TOWARD GRADUATION
A. All regular academic and schedule credits.
B. A maximum of two credits obtained off campus when
approved by the counselor and principal in advance, in writing, from:
1. Independent study courses from an accredited
institution.
2. Courses from Sauk Valley Comm. College, Clinton
C.C., Sterling Adult Education Program, Sterling Summer School, or
other North Central Approved programs.
3. Approved correspondence programs meeting North
Central standards.
4. Credits for transfer students. Transfer credit
will be awarded on the basis North Central standards.
If more than one credit is requested from any of the
above, a written request for such approval must be submitted to the
principal clearly stating the reason for the request. Each request will
be considered by the principal and guidance counselor on an individual
basis with the welfare of the student and the school district
contributing to the final decision. Courses will not be approved if
similar regularly scheduled classes are offered at Morrison High
School. All correspondence courses will include a $5 processing fee
payable to Morrison High School prior to the course being accepted for
credit.
SUMMER SCHOOL - Course offerings at Sterling and Rock
Falls High School are limited and subject to change. Students
often find that the required course they failed to earn credit for is
not available through the summer programs. The fees for these
courses are the student's responsibility.
