INFORMATIONAL REPORT

Dr. Edward Olds III and Dr. James Ewing were in attendance to give the Board an overview of the superintendent search process provided by their company, School Exec Connect.

They distributed a draft of a letter that they requested be edited and published in the community from Board President Sally Gray announcing that their company had been chosen to do the search and describing the search process.

Advertising the position will begin immediately.  An ad will be placed in Education Week newspaper, and it will be posted on the IASA and the School Exec Connect websites.  The deadline for applications will be February 15th.  They will screen the applicants and present four to six candidates to the Board.  Confidentiality was stressed as to protecting the identity of these candidates.  After the initial screening interviews by the Board, three finalists will be selected.  Their company will do the reference and background checks and extensive online searches.

A questionnaire will be put on the website for community and staff input on the New Superintendent Profile.  Paper copies will also be available for those desiring to have input but without internet access.  It will be open-ended so questions and comments can be added. These responses will be due by January 31st.

Two committees were formed to interview the finalists in addition to the Board.  The committee representing the community will be the members of the Citizens Advisory Committee.  The staff committee will be comprised of a teacher from each building, the three principals, Superintendent’s Secretary Wendy Krajnovich, Facilities Director Dean

Wallace, and Junior High Library Assistant Marc Adami, representing the classified staff.  Feedback from these  committees will be given to the Board, but will be informational only.

The Board will conduct second interviews with the finalists and narrow the choice to one candidate.  This final selection will be the choice of the Board only.  A site visit to the selected candidate’s current school district will be arranged for the entire Board.

The contract should be developed by the district attorney as soon as possible.  The bottom of the salary range should be at Dr. Ware’s current rate.  The new superintendent will assume his/her duties on July 1, 2008.
